Story by Philip Kepson
ENGAN Provincial Government has
allocated more than K300, 000.00 under this year’s provincial budget towards
making this year’s Enga Cultural Show bigger and better. Enga Governor Peter Ipatas told a
joint meeting with Barrack Porgera on sponsorship arrangements that his
government had resolved to promote pure Engan culture this year.
“This means that cultural performing
groups from other provinces will not be invited to our show this year,” Ipatas
said. He said the reason for having only
Engans participating in the show was to seriously promoting some of their dying
cultural activities. “My Government has allocated such
amount of money to seriously promoting and preserving our own dying culture.
There is no relevance in inviting every province to come and perform at our
expense. It does not make sense in this case,” he said.
Barrack Porgera has made an
undertaking to assist the show organizing committee with more than K50, 000.00. The event will take place in
September.
